1) What is SBG?
Students for Better Government is a student organization founded to help include the diverse campus of UIC in university governance, to create a more efficient and representative government.

2) Who is SBG?
SBG was first founded by a diverse group of students, coming from many different backgrounds and disciplines, dedicated to enhancing the UIC experience. SBG is open to any student who wants to become involved in bettering the campus by improving its governing bodies.

3) Why was SBG created?
SBG was created to increase participation and awareness of student government by informing students of important information concerning decisions made which affect their experience at UIC.

4) What has SBG accomplished?
Fire hydrant: SBG lobbied Ald. Solis and the UIC administration to finally repair the fire hydrant outside of Stevenson Hall. After working with and meeting representatives of the Chicago Water Department, and the UIC Building Engineers, SBG was able to apply political pressure after garnering the support of many students on campus.
Referendum: SBG drafted UIC’s first referendum to give students the opportunity to voice their opinion concerning the compensation of members of student government.
Survey: SBG also conducted a comprehensive survey to increase communication and help better understand the lives of students and the issues they find most important.

The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) is a representative body of undergraduates who serve to represent the interests of students to UIC’s faculty and administration.

USG is comprised of elected undergraduate students.

7) Why should you care about this year’s election?
This year’s election is extremely important because USG’s budget has been increased despite the hard economic times. As a result, the decisions of the next USG administration will have a larger effect on students than previous years.

8) How much money does USG have at its disposal?
Beginning next year, USG will have a budget of almost $100,000. This is an increase from previous years.

9) Are student government members paid?
Members of the executive board, as well as heads of committees, currently receive compensation ranging from $400 to $1,250.

10) How does student government affect you?
USG makes decisions which affect how your tuition money is spent. Acting as your voice to the administration, any decision past down from the student government is should reflect the interests of the student body.

11) What does my vote do?
Your vote helps decide who will serve in next year’s student government. By casting a vote, you are voicing your opinion about what you believe are the important issues that you would like to see addressed.

12) Who votes?
All undergraduates can vote for USG, while undergraduates and graduate students are eligible to vote for the Student Trustee.

14) How can you get involved?
You can get involved by keeping up to date on future events and developments concerning the campaigns. You can also attend the West Campus debate on April 7, the candidate meet and greet on April 8 at the Jane Addams Hull-House, and the East Campus debate on April 9. And remember to vote on April 15 and 16.
